Melancholy Monday

Recognizing that we don’t feel happy every day of our lives, Melancholy Monday for solo piano seeks to convey the different emotions of a gloomy Monday. The melodic arc moves the listener from a rainy start through a brief period of sun breaking through the clouds followed by a heart-tugging conclusion. The piece provides the performer with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate the emotional power of the piano. The composition will challenge performers in the following areas:melodic emphasis, spatial relationships, parallel sixths in one hand, and arpeggiated chords.
